PRODUCT QUESTIONS GENERAL QUESTIONS Q: Are your products archival and safe for photos?
A: All Kolo products are archival, acid free and lignin free. Kolo products meet or exceed all standards set forth by the United States Library of Congress. For more information please click here.

Q: Which of your albums are dry mount? In other words, which require the use of photo corners, photo mounts or photo tape to affix the images?
A: The Newport, Saint-Germain, Newbury, Lucca and Geneva are all dry mount albums.

Q: Which of your albums are easy-load? In other words, which albums have pockets into which I can insert my photos?
A: The Catalina, Hudson and Noci are easy-load albums.

Q: How do I clean a Kolo cloth covered album?
A: We suggest using a Dry Cleaning Pad for removing basic finger prints and other dirt or particles. The brand Staedtler (www.staedtler-usa.com) manufactures a Dry Cleaning Pad # 926 05, that works well. It's sold in most art supply and drafting stores. Avoid using soap or water on any Kolo products. This will only stain the album.

Q: What is the best environment to keep my album in?
A: It is important to store all photographs and photo albums in a dry place out of direct sunlight, with a consistent temperature around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity and large fluctuations in temperature can seriously damage photographs, even if archival storage products are used.

Q: Are your products made in the USA?
A: Our products are made worldwide in the following countries: The United States, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Holland and the Czech Republic. We control the product development and production process from the beginning by designing and engineering our raw materials. We choose to make products throughout the world in order to capitalize on the unique strengths of each country and, more specifically, each company for each component. Some products are assembled by different factories in different countries. We carefully monitor quality control and working conditions around the world ensuring that our suppliers share our same strong values in protecting working conditions and in protecting the environment. Each product is labeled with its country of origin; however, this is sometimes the final place of assembly incorporating many raw materials and parts from around the world. By law, we are required to mark the final country of assembly.
BACK TO TOPACCESSORIES Q: Are your photo corners self adhesive?
A: Yes.

Q: Should I use photo corners, photo mounts or photo tape for my project?
A: Photo corners, photo mounts and photo tape are all effective methods of affixing images to scrapbook pages and choose which to use is generally a personal preference. Photo tape and photo mounts are a permanent method of affixing images to the page; however, if using photo corners you may remove the photo from the corners in order to change the photo, scan or make a copy of it. Some people prefer the ease of using photo mounts and others find the photo tape preferable especially for odd sized objects/memorabilia.

Q: Why should I purchase 1” or 2” extender posts if refills come with ½” posts?
A: Although each package of refill pages comes with ½” posts which may be added to those already in the album, the more of these posts which are added cause a reduction in the album’s stability. For this reason, we offer 1” and 2” replacement posts. These replace those which come with the album to allow greater capacity and stability.
BACK TO TOPCATALINA Q: How much space is available for a caption/note?
A: The Catalina features approximately a 2” space on the inside portion of the page to journal or include a note/caption.

Q: Can I purchase protector pages for the Catalina scrapbook pages?
A: Unfortunately, Kolo does not currently offer protector pages for these refill pages.

Q. Can I put photos on both sides of a scrapbook style page (example Newport or Newbury) or will the photos stick to each other when I do that?
A. We recommend using our clear page protectors if putting photos on both sides of a page in a scrapbook style page. This is due to the fact that most photos can stick to each other if facing each other. This is especially true in humid climates. Another option is to mount photos on each side of a page in a placement arrangement that ensures that they do not touch each other. The Hudson, Noci and Catalina allow you to put photos on both sides easily since the page protector is built into the sheets.
BACK TO TOPGENEVA Q: How do you affix images to the pages?
A: The Geneva features scrapbook style paper pages and images may be affixed using photo corners, photo mounts and/or photo tape. These are all available from Kolo, click here.
BACK TO TOPHAVANA Q: How many photos does the medium Havana hold?
A: The medium Havana can accommodate approximately 500 4”x6” photos. This box will also accommodate 12 Noci albums.

Q: Which albums will fit in the large Havana box?
A: The large Havana will fit two 8 ½” x 11” Newport, two 8 1/2” x 11 Saint-Germain, two 8 1/2” x 11 Lucca or 2 Newbury albums.

Q: Is there a box which will accommodate the 11”x14” sized albums?
A: Unfortunately, Kolo does not currently offer a box designed for these albums.

Q: How many divider tabs does the medium Havana come with? Can I buy more?
A: The medium Havana box comes with 5 divider tabs. Kolo offers additional divider tabs for additional purchase in packages of 5, click here.
BACK TO TOPHUDSON Q: How much space is available for a caption/note?
A: The Catalina features approximately a 2” space on the inside portion of the page to journal or include a note/caption.

Q: What is bonded leather?
A. The fiber content of the bonded leather product comprises of 100% recycled cow hide fibers. The fibers are bonded together by natural latex, a renewable resource from Hevea trees without actually harming any trees. Approximately 70% of the total content of bonded leather is leather fibers and 30% is non-leather substances, mainly the natural latex along with tannin oils, vegetable tannin, dyes and leather finishes. Our bonded leather products have the same, look, feel and aroma of the genuine leather as they are tannery made.

Q:What is the best resolution for my photos to be added to a photo book?
A: The minimum resolution required for myKolo photo book is 480 x 480 pixels. The maximum image resolution is 6,000 x 6,000 pixels. If your photo is not in the range of resolution, you can use Adobe Photo shop to resample/resize your photo by going to “Image”, then “Image Size” on the top menu bar. If you are trying to make the resolution higher, the quality will be compromised.

Q: Should I be concerned with uploading photos of specific dimensions?
A: You do not need to be concerned regarding the original size of your images (4”x6”, 5”x7”, etc.). It does not matter what size they are as long as the resolution is sufficient. You can then resize and crop your photos to fit into our templates.

Q: Do you support RGB and CYMK files?
A: Kolo currently only supports RGB files.

Q: What file format should my photos be prior to uploading them?
A: Acceptable file formats are JPEG, TIFF and BMP. As TIFF and BMP files are usually compressed, we recommend that they be JPEG files prior to uploading.
Tip: Click here to find out how to convert images to JPEG in batches using Photoshop.

Q: Are the pictures I post on my account private?
A: All photos that you upload while signed into your account are private unless you would like to share them. To share your photos, click on “myPhotos”. After selecting the folder you would like to share, click “Share Folder” on the left hand side. You do not have to share all of your photos.

Q: If I share my photos with someone, can they re-share them with other people?
A: If you shared your photos via “share with an e-mail” option, only the people that you share your photos with can see them. If they forward the link or e-mail to others, those recipients will not be able to access your photos. If you share your photos via “share with a link,” everyone who has the link may view your photos. Only you can give permission for access to your photos.

Q: I want to create a full-bleed image (an image which fills the full usable space of the page). What dimensions should my image be?
A: For an 8 ½” x 11 full bleed image, the resolution should be 1750px (H) x 1975px (W) or 8.75” (H) x 9.875” (W). For an 11” x 14” full bleed, the resolution should be 2250px (H) x 2575px (W) or 11.25” (H) x 12.875” (W). There is a trim area on both sizes of 25px or .125”.
